About the book: Peter raises the kit fox he names PAX for five years before his father enlists in an encroaching war. On the way to live with his grandfather, Peter abandons the fox. Confused and alone, Pax discovers the wild, while Peter’s regret sends him into the night on a 300 mile journey to reunite with his pet. Pennypacker alternates between the fox and boy’s perspectives as they find strength in the struggle. Lots here to discuss if you're looking for a good read aloud.
I am reminded by this visual made collaboratively with my students (2014), that we never lose our greatness. Sometimes it just gets blocked and we use a reset to return to our greatness.
NOTE: Teach reset as a tool through modeling. Recognize your use of this strategy on yourself many, many times, then recognize others when you see them doing it independently. Avoid use of this tool as a means to control anyone but yourself. Effective use of reset relies on strength with stands one and two of the Nurtured Heart Approach®. We are not perfect nor can we expect perfection from others. The key to reset is the “kiss of forgiveness” that follows successful reentry. Right now I'm trying to recognize anxious moments when I begin to dysregulate with negative self talk, doubt or worry. For the short term (I'm not sure how long that will be), I am simply trying to notice the feelings. When I successfully pause to acknowledge “Ooh, there it is,” that is enough! It is enough for now because it is the start of my ability to grow a new habit.

Paula WickThe Thoughts from a Nurtured Heart blog includes ideas and perspectives encountered through intentional living. Posts include ideas that support NHA but are not necessarily explicit teachings of Howard Glasser. I've done my best to properly attribute ideas I borrow from others. Archives
